The Liliequist's ligament, also known as the iliquist membrane, is an essential anatomical structure that extends from the third ventricle to the sphenoid. This connection plays a fundamental role in the interaction between the oculomotor nerve and the basilar trunk, which is crucial for cerebral vascularization. By creating a tension axis, the ligament influences the ventricular system, interconnecting the third and fourth ventricles as well as the lateral ventricles, which has repercussions on the space occupied by the pituitary gland.
The tension dynamics generated by the Liliequist's ligament are also linked to postural movements, particularly around the optic chiasm, which facilitates drainage between cerebral structures and surrounding micro-vessels. Interactions between pericytes and nerves contribute to the formation of blood-brain spaces, thus strengthening the link between the nervous system and the hormonal system via the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid-adrenal-gonadal axis. Cranial movements, especially those of the parietals, are also decisive in this dynamic, influencing tensions at the level of dental occlusion and facial structures, thus revealing the importance of an integrated approach in osteopathy and biodynamic embryology for maintaining body balance.
