17-Reading the Skin

Concept overview

The skin is an essential reflection of the quality of the cerebrospinal fluid and an individual's general health. Its development begins with the neural crest during neural tube closure, where amniotic fluid, which is the origin of primitive cerebrospinal fluid, plays a crucial role. Skin health is intimately linked to the balance of membrane tensions and the lymphatic system, thus reflecting the metabolic state of the nervous system. Imbalances, whether cutaneous or related to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, can manifest as alterations in the skin, particularly in areas associated with the neural crest.

Skin colors can also provide indications of various health states. For example, excessive tanning can signal an overproduction of melanin, while a yellow tint can indicate liver problems. Hormones, particularly those produced by the thyroid and adrenals, influence skin pigmentation. A hormonal imbalance, such as excess cortisol, can disrupt the transformation of thyroid hormones, thus affecting cellular oxygenation. In summary, the skin, as an organ of expression, offers valuable clues about internal health and the complex interactions between different organ systems.
